Ma.Vee.Ra’s JOURNEY WITH MAHABHARATHAM

Manalur Veeravalli Ramanujachariar was the first person to fully translate the longest epic poem in the world, “MAHABHARATHA”, from Sanskrit to Tamil. He accomplished this transcendent work between 1907 to 1932 over 25 long years with a team of scholars, proficient in Sanskrit and Tamil. Notably, Sri U V Swaminatha Iyer in his autobiography praised Sri M V Ramanujacharyar for his immense contribution to Tamil literature. The Sanskrit Academy, Chennai, conferred upon him the title “Basha Bharatha Durandara” (Master of many languages), and he was awarded the greatest literary title of the time, “Maho Mahopadhyaya” by the then Governor General and Vice Roy of India, Lord Linlitco, in 1936.
